General, Direct messages and message requestsNew

How Pinglar sorts your conversations, and what happens when a stranger writes.

Your chats are sorted into sections of the sidebar, under your stories:

  • General for your groups, and Direct messages for one-to-one chats with the people you talk to.
  • Other for quieter conversations. Move a chat there from its menu or its details panel, and back the same way.
  • Requests for messages from people who are not your friends and whom you have never written to.

When you start a chat, by writing or calling first, it is never a request for you. Only the other person is asked to accept.

Favourites have a section of their own: drag them into the order you like. Your own folders each get a section too, and one of them can be shown first from its ⋯ menu. To see everything unread in one place, turn on Unreads in the sidebar's options, or press Ctrl+Shift+A.

A person who writes to you from Requests does not know you have seen their message until you Accept. You can also Delete the request or Block them.

You can pin up to 5 chats to the top, add people to Favourites for quick access, and mute a chat so it never notifies you.

If you would rather not get requests at all, turn off Message requests in Settings, Pinglar and calls.
